The railroad drew Grant's attention to Petersburg in 1864, leading to the ten month Siege of Petersburg. Many of
the buildings in Old Towne survived the Siege. Today Petersburg is trying to restore the history to be found there.

Built in 1854-1855 with both free and slave labor. It is believed to be the oldest Antebellum Railroad
station in Virginia. On April 2, 1865 Lee's Army began it's retreat to Appomattox.
